Boston, Massachusetts

Curtis Westcott Series

Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. Founded in 1630, it’s one of the oldest cities in the United States of America. Home of Curtis Westcott & Aislinn Byrne.

Byrne, Aislinn – Senior Homicide Detective

Curtis Westcott Series

Aislinn Byrne is a third-generation Irish cop from the hardscrabble streets of Jamaica Plain. She’s tall and pretty, with a hard look in her eyes that keeps men at a distance. She came up through the ranks and knows the Boston streetscape intimately. Pity the fool who tries to play her, it never works out well for them.

Aislinn is Westcott’s most trusted detective. She’s married to the job, and because it gets all the best parts of her there’s precious little left for anyone trying to break through her crusty shell and get close.

Methodical and precise, Aislinn doesn’t rely on intuition like Curtis. She pays attention to every piece of the investigation, fits them together and builds a solid case that will hold up in court. She loves walking into an interview room and sitting down opposite a murder suspect. Most times it’s not a fair fight.

Westcott, Curtis  – Chief of Boston Homicide

Curtis Westcott Series

On the surface, Curtis Westcott wouldn’t be your first pick to head up the homicide division for a large US city. He’s late-thirties and young for the job, wears his jet-black hair a bit too long and is more of a friend to the other detectives than a boss.

But what’s on the surface can be deceiving. Westcott is brilliant at solving the toughest cases, relentless in his search for the truth and well respected by his detectives. He’s also a lawyer – the son of a prominent Boston judge and the heir to a thriving legal practice – but he set aside his law degree to chase murderers.

Westcott knows that evidence drives a homicide investigation, but he often goes out on a limb because of something he feels in his gut, and that can put him at odds with his superiors.

It’s a tough gig and he’s haunted by the memories of the murder victims. He seldom sleeps and is often out at three in the morning walking Barclay, his black lab, thinking about whatever case is on his desk.

If you kill someone in Boston, Westcott is the last person you want on the case.
